A
All materials have a natural frequency at which they will vibrate when a force is applied
Ex. when you strike a piece of wood or metal it makes a sound

Resonace
A
By creating vibrations that constructively interfere with the natural frequencies of the material, we can create a sound that can be heard
This is called resonance - a wave that vibrates very close to the natural frequencies of another material which interferes constructively with the natural frequencies of the material
This is how musical instruments work
A vibration is applied to the material of the instrument which resonates at a specific frequency to create an audible sound

We can divide instruments into 3 general categories that we will use for this class:
Stringed instruments
