Interference and Superposition Flashcards
1
Q
when a wave hits a soild object what does it do?
A
Reflects
2
Q
Constructive interference
A
is when two waves add their amplitudes together when they meet.
3
Q
Destructive interference
A
is when two waves cancel or reduce each other’s amplitude when they meet.
4
Q
Principle of Superposition
A
When two waves meet, we can determine the resulting amplitude during the meeting using the Principle of Superposition which states:
“When two waves interfere, the resulting displacement of the medium at any location is the algebraic sum of the displacements of the individual waves at that same location.”
