Musculoskeletal part 1 Flashcards
Sprain
Ligament
Strain
Muscle
Dislocation
Complete displacement Severe injury to ligaments around joint
Subluxation
Partial dislocation Less severe Heal faster
Musculoskeletal injury neurovascular check 6ps
Pain Pulses Paresthesia Pallor Paralysis Polar (temp)
Avulsion fracture
Break near tendon, the tendon tears off, as well as some bone attached to it
Comminuted fracture
Break of the bone into more than two fragments

Displaced fracture
Bone broken in two, top half slides so it is no longer in-line with bottom half

Greenstick fracture
Bends like a wet branch, breaks only on one side. Common in kids
Impacted fracture
Length-wise compression of bone

Interarticular fracture
Break crosses into the surface of a joint
Longitudinal fracture
Crack runs down length of bone

Oblique fracture
Runs diagonal through (pretty self explanatory)
Pathologic fracture
Bone broken by disease rather than injury.
Osteomalacia, Osteoporosis, Rickets, Paget’s disease
Spiral fracture
Shearing forces twist bone into a break

Stress fracture
Tiny cracks in bone from overuse or repetitive force
Transverse fracture
Perpendicular to length of bone but still like connected for the most part
