What subjective data would the patient give?
pain, swelling, stiffness, limited movement
What types of physical exams are there?
screening exam, complete exam
When is a complete exam done?
when they patient has problems with ADLs
What is the order of the exam?
inspection, palpation, range of motion, muscle testing
What is expected to be seen in pregnant women?
lordosis, a waddling walk
What is expected to be seen in an infant?
c-shaped spine, arms go up in response to gravity
What are abnormal findings?
rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis
What teaching should be done?
good posture, screen for osteoporosis, recommended daily amount of calcium
What should be noted during palpation?
tenderness, resistance, swelling, edema
Muscle strength testing is graded on what scale?
1-5, 5 being the best
What is active ROM?
the patient does it themselves
What is passive ROM?
the nurse does it for them
What are the five Ps to assess for?
pain (1-10), power, paralysis (movement), parastesia (numbness), pulslessness (pale)
How id muscle strength tested?
grip strength test
Should muscles be equal on both sides?
yes
