Musculo-neuro-vascular systems of gluteal region Flashcards
Origin of gluteus medius
External iliac surface between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion of gluteus medius
Lateral surface of greater trochanter
innervation of gluteus medius
Superior gluteal nerve ( L5,S1)
Actions of gluteus medius
*Abducts femur at hip joint
*Internally rotates femur at hip joint
*Stabilises pelvis in coronal plane
Origin of gluteus minimus
External iliac surface between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Insertion of gluteus minimus
Anterior surface of greater trochanter
Innervation of gluteus minimus
Superior gluteal nerve ( L5,S1)
Actions of gluteus minimus
*Abducts femur at hip joint
*Internally rotates femur at hip joint
*Stabilises pelvis in coronal plane
Weakness of hip abductors
Trendelenburg sign
Tendelenburg’s gait
When standing on one leg, hip abductors are unable to counteract gravity
Opposite side of pelvis tilts inferiorly
Patient leans to the same side as weak hip abductors
Tensor fasciae Latae origin
ASIS + Anterior iliac crest
