Muscularskeletal system Flashcards
What does skeletal/striated muscle do?
facilitates movement
what does smooth/involountary movement do?
Controls things that happen automatically (such as peristalsis and constriction of blood vessels)
Where is cardiac muscle found?
In the 4 chambers of the heart
What is a tendon?
A fibrous connective tissue that attaches bone to muscle
What is a Ligament?
A short band of tough fibrous tissue that attaches bone to bone
What is Cartilage?
A strong, flexible connective tissue that protects joints/bones
What is a joint?
Any place in the body where two bones meet
What are fibrous joints?
Where bones fuse together to create structure. (They are made of thick connective tissue and contain a lot of collagen)
What are Cartilaginous joints?
They have bones connected by cartilage/they have movement but don’t move far.
Synovial joints?
They have the most freedom to move, Synovial membrane/Capsule surrounds the joints and consists of connective tissue and synovial fluid.
