MUSCULAR TISSUE Flashcards
What is muscular tissue?
A tissue of highly contractile nature made up of long elongated cells called muscle fibers.
What are myofibrils?
Each muscle fibers constitutes of fine longitudinal fibrils called myofibrils.
What is the cytoplasm of muscle fiber known as?
Sarcoplasm
What is the membrane of sarcoplasm termed as?
Sarcolemma
What is the origin of muscular tissue?
Mesodermal
What are the types of muscular tissue?
1.Striated or striped or skeletal or voluntary muscular tissue
2.Unstriated or unstriped or involuntary muscular tissue
3.Cardiac tissue
Striated muscles? shape, nucleus, arrangement, dark band, light band, h-band, z-band , location
structure-long, cylindrical with blunt ends
nucleus- acentric/syncytial
arrangement-myofibrils arranged into dark and light bands
Dark band-highly refractive, anisotropic band (A-band), mid point bisection-Henson’s line (H-band), formed of myosin protein.
Light band- non-refractive, isotropic band (I-band), mid point bisection- Krause’s membrane (Z-band), actin protein.
location- body wall, pharynx, esophagus, tongue
Voluntary, gets tired quickly
Unstriated
shape-spindle, tapering at both ends
nucleus-single at middle
sarcolemma-absent
bands-none, so smooth
contraction-slow and prolonged, never gets tired
location- walls of alimentary canal, urinary bladder, blood vessels, genital tract
INVOLUNTARY, controlled by autonomic nervous system
CARDIAC
Heart wall only, both properties, myogenic (contracts on its own without central nervous system interference)
shape-cylindrical interconnected by oblique bridges with stripes
presence of intercalated discs
do not get tired
supplied by cns(vagus nerve) and ans
INVOLUNTARY
Difference between striated and unstriated
1.location
2.shape
3.nucleus
4.bands
5.sarcolemma
6. voluntary
