MUSCULAR SYSTEM AND MOTOR NERVOUS SYSTEM Flashcards
What are the 3 types of muscles?
Skeletal muscles
Cardiac muscles
Smooth involuntary muscles
What are the 4 functions of the skeletal muscles?
- Movement
- Respiratory mechanics
- Maintanence of posture and position
- Protection of vital organs
Name the 10 shapes of skeletal muscles.
- Circular (eye)
- Digatsric (neck)
- Multipennate (deltoid)
- Convergent (chest twists )
- Quadrate (six-pack)
- Thin parallel muscle ( medial thigh muscle)
- Unipennate (lateral leg muscle)
- Bipennate (anterior thigh muscle)
- Flat parallel muscle (parallel to quadrates)
- Fusiform (biceps)

What forms the structure of muscle compartments?
Deep fascia and inter-muscular septa.
How are muscular compartments named?
According to the function of the group on the joint, that is distal to the compartment.
What are the common characteristics of muscles located in a compartment?
They share nerve and blood supply.
What is the origin of the coracobrachialis muscle?
The apex of the coracoid process.
What is the insertion of the coracobrachialis muscle?
The linear roughening of the midshaft of the humerus on the medial side.
What is the function of the coracobrachialis?
Flexor of the arm at the glenohumeral joint.
What is the innervation of the coracobrachialis?
Musculocutaneous (C5, C6 & C7)
What is the origin of the long head of the biceps brachialis?
Supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula.
What is the insertion of the long head of the bicep brachialis?
Radial tuberosity.
What is the function of the long head of the biceps brachialis?
Flexor of the forearm at the elbow joint.
What is the innervation of the long head of the biceps brachialis?
Musculocutaneous (C5 & C6)
What is the origin of the short head of the biceps brachialis?
The apex of the coracoid process.
