Muscular System Flashcards
Forms medial side of each thigh. They adduct or press the thighs together.
Adductors
Acts of flexion of the forearm and acts to supinate the forearm. It turns the corkscrew and pulls the work.
Biceps Brachii
Makes up the hamstrings along with the Semimembranosus and the Semitendinosus.
Biceps Femoris
Runs horizontally across the cheek. It flattens the cheek.
Buccinators
Triangle shaped muscles that form the rounded shape of your shoulders. Prime movers of arm abduction.
Deltoids
A muscle whose contraction extends or straightens a limb or other part of the body.
Extensors
Small muscles located between each rib from the first to the eleventh.
External Intercostals
Make up lateral walls of the abdomen. They run from the last eight ribs to the ilium.
External Oblique
Found on the lateral part of the leg. Flexes and everts the foot.
Fibularis Longus
Muscles that decrease the angle between bones on two sides of a joint.
Flexors
Covers the frontal bone as it runs from the cranial aponeurosis to the skin of the eyebrows.
Frontalis
A two-bellied muscle that forms the curved calf of the posterior leg. Prime mover for plantar flexion of the foot.
Gastrocnemius
The butt. Powerful hip extensor.
Gluteus Maximus
It’s a hip abductor and steadies the pelvis during walking. Next to the butt.
Gluteus Medius
Deep to the external obliques. Go from the iliac crest to the last three ribs.
Internal Oblique
Large, flat muscle pair that covers the lower back. Originates on the lower spine and ilium and sweeps to the lower end of the humerus.
Latissimus Dorsi
Covers the angle of the lower jaw as it runs from the zygomatic process of the temporal bone to the mandible.
Masseter
This allows you to close your eyes, squint, blink, and wink.
Orbicularis Oculi
The circular muscle of the lips. Closes the mouth and protrudes the lips.
Orbicularis Oris
A large fan-shaped muscle covering the upper part of the chest. Adducts and flexes the arm.
Pectoralis Major
Most superficial muscles of the abdomen. Run from the pubis to the rib cage.
Rectus Abdominus
Part of the quadriceps group. This along with three cactus muscles. It originates on the pelvis.
Rectus Femoris
A thin, straplike muscle. Runs obliquely across the thigh to the medial side of the tibia.
Sartorius
Forms the hamstring along with the Biceps Femoris and the Semitendinosus.
Semimembranosus
