Muscular System Flashcards
What is the primary function
Create movement
What is the origin
The pint of attachment to a stationary bone which stays relatively fixed during a muscle contraction
What is the insertion
The point of attachment to a moveable bone which gets closer to the origin during muscular contraction
Agonist
Muscle responsible for creating movement in a joint
Antagonist
Muscle that opposes the agonist providing a a resistance
Fixator
Muscle that stabilises one part of the body while another causes movement
What is concentric contraction
Muscle contraction where the muscle shortens producing tension. This causing the bones to move together
Ecocentric contraction
Muscle contraction where a muscle lengths producing tension. This resists source such as gravity to control movements
Isometric contraction
Muscle contraction where the muscles do not change length, this creates tension
