Q

What is isotonic contractions with an example?

A

When muscle length changes
- Concentric: muscle length shortens
- Eccentric: muscles lengthen
Picking up a shot put and brining to face

Q

Describe isometric with an example

A

Muscle contracts but no movement is produced.
Putting tension on something but no shortening or lengthening occurs
E.g pushing on a wall

Q

What are 4 characteristics of fast twitch fibres?

A
  • White
  • Contract rapidly - shorter period of time
  • Best suited to anerobic and high intensity activities.
Exerts great force in bursts of power and speed.

Q

What are 4 characteristics of slow twitch fibres?

A
  • Red
  • Contract slowly
  • Best suited to aerobic and endurance activities
  • Exerts less force and contracts repeatedly
