Muscular System Flashcards
Study the health and structure of the muscular system
a large, fan-shaped muscle in the chest that moves the arm
Pectoralis
the large muscle at the back of the upper arm
Triceps
a large muscle in the upper arm that flexes and supinates the forearm
Biceps
muscle forming the rounded contour of the human shoulder.
Deltoids
a large, flat, fan-shaped muscle in the lower back that’s responsible for moving the upper extremity and helping with breathing
Latissimus Dorsi
a pair of segmented skeletal muscle on the ventral aspect of a person’s abdomen
Rectus abdominus
a pair of muscles on each side of the abdomen that help with rotation, bending, and stability
Obliques
a group of muscles that run vertically along either side of the spine, from the skull to the sacrum
Erector Spinae
Inner thigh
Pulls thighs together, rotates the upper leg and stabilizes the hip.
Adductors
The front of your thigh above your knee
Extends the leg at the knee joint and flex the thigh at the hip joint
Quadriceps
Posterior of your upper leg
Extend the hip and flex the knee
Hamstrings
Buttock hip area
Helps stabilize the upper body and pelvis also extends the hip
Gluteal
Posterior lower leg
Walking and posture
Gastrocnemius
wide, flat muscle in the back of the lower leg that runs from just below the knee to the heel. It’s located deep to the gastrocnemius muscle, and the two muscles work together to help with walking, running, jumping, and maintaining posture
Soleus
on the upper back, extending from the base of the skull to the mid-back, and laterally to the spine of the scapula (shoulder blade); its primary function is to stabilize and move the scapula, allowing for movements like neck extension, shoulder elevation, and retraction of the shoulder blade depending on which part of the trapezius muscle is activated
