Muscular Injuries Flashcards
Long, slender cells that make up muscles
Muscle Fibers
A band of connective tissues that envelops, separates, or binds muscles together or groups of muscles.
(Flexible to allow movements)
Fascia
Narrow band of nonelastic, dense, fibrous connective tissue.
(Attach muscles to bones)
Tendons
Stimulation of muscle by impulse transmitted by a motor serve.
Stimulation stops = muscle relaxation
Muscle Innervation
Results from repeated motion
Repetitive Stress Disorders
Compression of nerves/blood vessels
Compartment syndrome
Minor tissue injuries that are not given time to heal
Overuse injuries
Chronic pain affecting muscles and fascia throughout the body. (Muscle contracts repetitively)
Trigger points: develops when fascia comes in contact with a muscle
Myofascial Pain Syndrome
Inflammation and swelling of tendons passing through a carpal tunnel. Swelling causes pressure on median nerve, that may require surgery.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Harmless fluid-filled swelling occurring commonly on the outer surface of the wrist—that may be due to repeated minor injuries, but may not require treatment.
Ganglion Cyst
Inflammation of the plantar fascia at the sole of the foot.
Cause foot or heel pain when walking, running, or even just standing.
Plantar fasciitis
Injury due to wrenching or tearing of ligaments
Sprain
Injury due to wrenching or tearing of muscle or tendon
Strain
Injury when a muscle tears away from the tibia
Shin splint
Strain or tear of any hamstring muscles
Hamstring injury
