muscular exam Flashcards
functions of muscle tissue
- movement
- thermogenesis
- maintains posture and support
- regulation of organ volume
- protects internal organs
- pumps blood
elasticity
ability of muscle to return to muscle shape after being stretched
excitability (irritability)
ability of muscle to respond to stimulis, “being irritated”
Extensibility (Flexibility)
Ability of muscle to be stretched.
Contractility
Ability of muscle to shorten or thicken while producing movement.
Skeletal muscle tissue
-Attached to bones by tendons
-Moves skeleton, posture, heat production
-Striated, cylindrical shaped
-Voluntary
Cardiac Muscle tissue
-Bulk of the heart walls
-Pumps blood
-Striated, intercalated discs allowing heart to contract.
-Involuntary (somewhat)
Visceral Muscle tissue
-Walls of hollow internal organs
-Controls diameter of BV, wave like contractions
-Non- Striated, spindle shaped
-Involuntary
ACTIN
Light, Thin, I band
MYOSIN
Dark, Thick, A band
Epimysium muscle layer
Outermost layer, surrounds ENTIRE muscle
Perimysium Muscle layer
Sepperates and surrounds Fasicles, around bundles of muscle fiber
Endomysium
Inner layer, Surrounds each individual muscle fiber
Skeletal muscle from smallest to largest
-myofilaments
-myofibril
-muscle cell fiber
-fascicle (bundles)
-Entire muscle
