- Muscular dystrophies are a group of muscle diseases caused by mutations in a person’s genes. causes muscle weakness
- frequent falling
- difficulty in rising from a lying or seated position.
- muscle pain and stiffness
- severe depression
- anxiety
- poor memory
- cognitive deficits
- absence or reduced expression of dystrophin cause the muscular dystrophies,
- can be inherited by 1/ both parents passing on the faulty gene, and mother to son
- children typically use wheelchairs at age 12
- it affects boy more bc.. X chromosome
- the reason for it is genetic and the only way to improve way of life for an individual with it is to provide treatments
- steroid medication to repair and grow muscle
- assistive devices, canes, wheel chairs, scooters
