Muscular Contraction and Reflex Control Flashcards
Humans have 3 major types of muscle tissue…Name them
1) Skeletal muscle - striated
2) Smooth muscle - non striated
3) Cardiac muscle - striated
What are the functions of the specific muscle tissues ?
Skeletal muscle - moves and stabilises the muscle tissue - generates heat and protects the internal organs - consciously and subconsciously controlled.
Cardiac muscle - Moves blood through heart; maintains blood pressure.
Smooth muscle - found in GI, Urinary and reproductive tracts. Regulated diameter of blood vessels
Name 4 general functions of the muscle tissues
1) Body movement
2) Stabilizing body position
3) Generating heat e.g; shivering
4) Storing and moving substances e.g; Urine
Name 4 general properties of the muscle tissues
1) Electric excitability
2) Contractility
3) Extensibility
4) Elasticity - ability to return to normal shape and length after contraction
Muscles are attached to the bone via the tendon. TRUE or FALSE ?
TRUE
What is the Sacromere made up of ?
Thick and Thin filaments
How are muscle fibers formed ?
During development of hundreds of myoblasts
Muscle growth is via Hyperthrophy (under the effect of hormones and exercise). TRUE or FALSE ?
TRUE
