muscular adaptations Flashcards
Hypertrophy
An increase in muscle size when training regulary.
More protein in cells so they become larger.
Greater force of contraction the bigger the muscle.
Increased tendon strength
Increase in flexibility and strength with regular excercise.
Increase in number and size of mitochondria
When hypertrophy occurs there is more room in the muscle. Allows more mitochondria means aerobic performances improve
Increase in myglobin stores
A haemoglobin found in the muscles that the oxygen binds to, with a increase in this store it means that more respiration can occur providing the muscle with more energy.
Increase in storage of glycogen
The more glycogen the longer you can train and the higher the intensity. No oxygen is needed.
Increase in storage of fat
Can break down fatty acids and energy using oxygen.
Increased tolerance to lactic acid
Capillary network will extend allowing more blood supply to the muscles meaning they will get less fatigued.
