Muscular Flashcards
Adductors
medial compartment of the thigh, these muscles primarily function to move the thigh/lower extremity closer to the body’s central axis.
Biceps brachii
on the front of the upper arm between the shoulder and the elbow, primary function is to flex the elbow and rotate the forearm
Biceps femoris
a long muscle in the posterior compartment of the thigh responsible for movement at both the hip and knee joints
Buccinators
in the cheeks on the human face, makes the face chew, blow, swallow, suck
Deltoid
n your shoulder, which is the ball-and-socket joint that connects your arm to the trunk of your body, deltoid muscles help you move your arms in different directions, they also protect and stabilize your shoulder joint
Extensors
posterior compartment of the forearm, function of these muscles is to produce extension at the wrist and fingers
External intercostals
between adjacent ribs, play a role in respiration and are part of the intercostal muscle group
External oblique
on the outer surface of the sides of the abdomen, responsible for the twisting of the trunk
Fibularis longus
superficial muscle in the lateral compartment of the leg, tilt the sole of the foot away from the midline of the body, extend the foot downward away from the body at the ankle
Flexors
stretch from the humerus (upper-arm bone) along the inside of the forearm to the metacarpal bones of the hand and flex the wrist
Frontalis
extend from the eyebrow region to the top of the forehead
Gastrocnemius
forms the major bulk at the back of lower leg, fundamental for walking and posture
Gluteus maximus
makes up the bulk of the shape and form of the buttock and hip area, helps walk
Gluteus medius
on the ass, prime mover of abduction at the hip joint
Internal oblique
right next to the ads, control the movement on the same side of the body
Latissimus dorsi
right under the shoulders, upper extremity movement
Masseter
where you cheek is, helps move the jaw up and down
Orbicularis oculi
muscle around the eyes, help close and open the eyes
Orbicularis oris
muscle of the lips, closes the lips to narrow the oral opening
Pectoralis major
chest, help you move your shoulder
Rectus abdominus
middle of your abdomen from your ribs to the front of your pelvis, hold your internal organs in place and keep your body stable during movement
Rectus femoris
runs straight down the thigh, extend the knee and also assists hip flexor
Sartorius
crosses both the hip and knee joints, producing movements on both of them
Semimembranosus
part of the hamstring muscles, extends the hip joint and flexes the knee joint
Semitendinosus
back of thighs, works to extend at the hip and flex at the knee
Soleus
back of the lower leg, helps with standing and walking.
Sternocleidomastoid
neck muscles that play an important role in tilting your head and turning your neck
Temporalis
head/skull near the area of the temples, play an important role in biting and chewing food
Tibialis anterior
muscle of the anterior compartment of the lower leg, to move your toes upwards and downwards
Trapezius
muscle comprised of particularly long muscle fibers spanning a large width of the upper back, mainly postural attributes, allowing and supporting the spinal column to remain erect when the person is standing
Triceps brachii
on the dorsal part of the upper arm, function of the triceps is the extension of the elbow joint
Vastus lateralis
helps extend the knee and stabilize the kneecap
Vastus medialis
helps extend the knee and stabilize the kneecap, in the quad muscles
Zygomaticus
controls facial expression, drawing the mouth’s angle upward and outward,
Quadriceps
a group of muscles at the front of your thigh, perform a variety of movements, including kicking, running, jumping and walking
Hamstring
skeletal muscles at the back of your thigh, use them to walk, climb stairs, do squats and perform many other leg movements
