Muscular Flashcards
Elastic connective tissue
mainly elastic fibers with a minor component of collagen fibers.
Structure
- muscles are anchored by tendons
- muscular move bones
- skeletal bones moved at joint by muscle
- nervous impulses
- respiratory - o2 and co2 btwn air and blood
- circulatory - 02 to muscles remove co2
Rheumatoid arthritis
A chronic inflammatory disorder affecting many joints, including those in the hands and feet.
Arrangements
- antagonistic - opponents
- range of motion - mobility
- synergistic - same function work together
- tone- slight contraction
Contraction
- isotonic exercise- bring about movement :jogging lifting weights
- isometric exercise -without movement
- muscle sense-brain knows abt muscle
- stretch receptors -detect changes
Sarcolemma
- depolarization - contraction (action potential) makes inside positive and the outside negative
- polarization positive charge outside negative charge inside (resting potential)
- repolarization - impulse along ENTIRE sarcolemma ( action potential)
Troponin and tropomyosin
prevent pulling of actin until sarcolemma depolarizes
Tetanus and botulism
- tetanus -unable to relax (bacteria clostridium tetani)
- botulism-food poisoning ; diarrhea ,puking, hard to speak or swallow
Dystrophy
- genetic disease w/ muscle tissue fixed by fibrous tissue
- Duchenne- sex linked trait (kids) X chromosome and recessive
myasthenia gravis
autoimmune disorder extreme muscle fatigue
treatment = cholinesterase med
movement
- flexion - decrease
- extension -increase
- adduction -(IN ) CLOSE to midline
- abduction-(out) AWAY
- pronation -down
- supination -palm up
movement pt 2
- dorisflection elevate foot
- plantar flexion -point the toes
- inversion - medially to ankle
- eversion-lateral at ankle
- rotation -around longitudinal axis
Intramuscular injections

- rapid absorption needed bc muscle has good blood supply .
- safest spot for injection - anterior gluteal site
another word for neurotransmitter is
acetylcholine
muscles that are unable to contract and will atrophy ; result of nerve damage
paralysis
Makes the sarcolemma very permeable to Na ions that enter the cells and reverse charges to negative outside and positive inside
Acetylcholine
