Muscles That Move Arm Flashcards
Shoulder Joint
Glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint) consists of the attachment of humerus bone to scapula
Ball and socket joint
Responsible for 120degrees of motion (highly mobile, less stable)
Arms raised out to side
Shoulder abduction
Deltoid: all fibers and supraspinatus
Arms lowered to side and across body
Shoulder Addiction
Pectoralis major and latissimus dorsi
Arm out front
Shoulder flexion
Pectoralis major, and anterior fibers of the deltoid
Arm lifted behind or down in front
Shoulder extension
Latissimus dorsi, teres major (“little lat”)
Arm rotated so elbow faces forward
Internal shoulder rotation
Subscapularis
Latissimus dorsi and pectoralis major
Elbow faces backward
External rotation
Infraspinatus and teres minor
Move arm up and out to the side
Horizontal abduction
Latissimus dorsi and posterior fibers of deltoid
Move arm up and across body
Horizontal adduction
Pectoralis major and anterior fibers of deltoid
Elbow and wrist joints
Elbow joints: Humerus, radius, and ulna bones
Wrist joints: distal ends or radius, ulna, and carpal bones
Bent elbow
Elbow flexion
Biceps brachii
Straightened elbow
Elbow extension
Triceps brachii
Palm bent towards forearm
Wrist flexion
Wrist flexors
Bend back of the hand towards forearm
Wrist extension
Wrist extensors
