Muscles of thorax and anterolateral abdomen wall Flashcards
External Oblique m
O: External surfaces of 5th - 12th ribs
I: pubic tubercle, anterior half of iliac crest, and linea alba
INNE: Thoracoabdominal nn. T7-T11 spinal nerves and subcostal nn
Internal Oblique m.
Thoracolumbar fascia, 2/3 of iliac crest and CT deep to lateral third of the inguinal ligament
I: Inferior borders of 10th - 12th ribs, linea alba, and pecten pubis via conjoint tendon
INNE Thoracoabdominal spinal nn. T6-T12 and first lumbar n.
A: FLX and ROT trunk. compresses and supports abdominal viscera
Transversus Abdominis m.
internal surfaces of 7th to 12th costal cartilages, thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, and CT deep to lateral third of inguinal ligament,
INNE Thoracoabdominal spinal nn. T6-T12 and first lumbar n.
A: supports and compresses abdominal viscera
Rectus Abdominis m.
O: Pubic symphysis and pubic crest
I Xiphoid process and 5h to 7th costal cartilages.
INNE: Thoracoabdominal nn. anterior rami of T6-T12.
A: FLX trunk and compresses abdominal viscera, stabilizes and controls tilt of pelvis
Transversus Thoracis
O: posterior surface of lower sternum
I:internal surface of costal cartilages 2-6
INNE: intercostal n.
A: weakly depress ribs…proprioception
subcostal
O:internal surface of lower ribs near their angles
I:superior borders of 2nd or 3rd ribs below
A: same as intercostals…
INNE: intercostal n.
innermost intercostals
O: inferior border of the ribs I: superior border of ribs below INNE: intercostal n A:depresses ribs - interosseous part elevates ribs - intrachondral forced respiration
internal intercostals
O: inferior border of the ribs I: superior border of ribs below INNE: intercostal n depresses ribs - interosseous part elevates ribs - intrachondral forced respiration
external intercostals
O: inferior border of the ribs
I: superior border of ribs below
INNE: intercostal n
A: elevates ribs
Serratus Posterior Superior
O: Nuchal ligament and C7-T6
I: ribs 2-5 on the superior borders near the angles
INNE: intercostal nn (T2-T5)
A: elevates the ribs
Serratus Posterior Inferior
O: SPs of T11-L2
I: inferior border of ribs 8-12, near the angles
INNE: ventral rami of T9-T12 spinal nerves
A: depresses the ribs
Levator Costarum
O: TPs of T7-T11
I: between the angles and tubercles of inferior ribs.
INNE: Dorsal rami of C8-T11
A: elevates the ribs
Anterior Scalene
O: anterior tubercle of TPs of C3-C6
I: 1st rib (scalene tubercle)
INNE: Cxspine nerves C4-6
A: neck FLX and elevation of first rib and neck FLX unilaterally (ipsilaterally)
Middle Scalene
O: posterior tubercle of TPs of C5-C7
I: superior surface of 1st rib posterior to the groove for the subclavian artery
A: Cx FLX to same side; elevates first rib during forced inspiration
INNE: Cx spinal nerves (anterior rami)
Posterior scalene
O: posterior tubercle of TPs C5-C7
I: 2nd rib
A: neck SB; elevates 2nd rib during forced inspiration
INNE: ventral rami of C7 to C8
