Muscles of the Upper Limb Flashcards
Insertion of Pectoralis Major
Lateral Lip of Intertubercular Sulcus of Humerus
Origin of Pectoralis Major
Clavicular Head: Anterior Surface of Medial Half of the Clavicle
Sternalcostal Head: Anterior Surface of Sternum, superior six costal cartilages, aponeurosis of external oblique
Innervation of Pectoralis Major
Lateral and medial pectoral nerves, clavicular head (C5,C6) sternocostal head (C7, C8, T1)
Action of Pectoralis Major
Adduct and medially rotate shoulder joint, draws scapula anteriorly and inferiorly
Acting Alone, clavicular head flexes shoulder joint and sternocostal head extends it from the flexed position
Origin of the Pectoralis Minor
3rd-5th ribs near their costal cartilages
Insertion of the Pectoralis Minor
Medial Border and Superior Surface of Coracoid Process of Scapula
Innervation of Pectoralis Minor
Medial Pectoral Nerve (C8,T1)
Action of Pectoralis Minor
Stabilizes Scapula by drawing inferiorly and anteriorly against thoracic wall
Origin of the Subclavius
Junction of 1st Rib of Costal Cartilage
Insertion of Subclavius
Inferior Surface of middle third of clavicle
Innervation of Subclavius
Subclavian Nerve (C5,C6)
Action of Subclavius
Anchors and depresses clavicle
Origin of Serratus Anterior
External surfaces of lateral parts of 1st-8th Ribs
Insertion of Serratus Anterior
Anterior Surface of Medial Border of Scapula
Innervation of Serratus Anterior
Long Thoracic Nerve (C5, C6, C7)
Action of Serratus Anterior
Protracts Scapula and hold against thoracic wall; rotates scapula
