muscles of the shoulder region (scapular muscles) Flashcards
Innervation of deltoid is
circumflex (axillary) nerve (C5,6)
Action of deltoid muscle
anterior fibers flex and medially rotates the arm
posterior fibers extend and laterally rotates the arm
middle fibers abduct the arm from 15 to 90 degrees
Deltopectoral groove lodges…..,….and…..
uppermost part of cephalic vein
deltoid branch of thoraco-acromial artery
deltopectoral lymph nodes
nerve supply of supraspinatus
suprascapular nerve (C5,6)
Action of supraspinatus
Helps to steady the head of the humerus in the glenoid cavity
abducts the arm from 0 to 15 (initiates abduction)
Innervation of infraspinatus
supscapular nerve (C5,6)
Action of infraspinatus
Steadies the head of the humerus
Rotates the arm laterally
Nerve supply of teres minor
axillary( circumflex) nerve (C5,6)
Action of teres minor…..,…..and…..
Steadies the head of the humerus, adducts and rotates the arm
Nerve supply of Teres major
lower subscapular nerve (C5,6)
Teres major action …,….and…..
adduction, medial rotation and extension of the arm.
Innervation of teres minor
axillary (circumflex) nerve (C 5,6)
Teres minor action….,…and….
steadies the head of the humerus
adducts and laterally rotates the arm
any muscle attached to a fossa is attached to its middle two thirds
Innervation of subscapularis
upper and lower subscapular nerves (C 5,6)
