Origin - superior eight or nine ribs
Insertion - vertebral border and inferior angle of scapula
Action - abducs scapula and rotates upward. Elevates ribs when scapula isstabilized
Innervation - Long thoracic nerve

Origin - spinous process of C7-T5
Insertion: Medial border of scapula
Action: elevates and adducts scapula
innervation: brachial plexus

Origin: transverse process of C1-C4
Insertion: medial border of scapula
Action: elevates scapula; extends neck when the scapula is fixed
Innervation: ventral rami C3, C4
