Muscles of the hand Flashcards
What are the intrinsic muscles of the hand strucutred like?
They have their proximal attachments, belly and distal attachments within the hand.
They are supplied mostly by the ulnar nerve, some by the median.
What are the compartments of the hand?
The Thenar (orange)
Adductor compartment (Purple)
Central compartment (pink)
Hypothenar compartment (blue)
Interrossesous compartment (brown)
What is contained within the thenar compartment?
The muscles that move the thumb.
Abductor pollicis brevis (APB)
Flexor Polilicis brevis (FBP) Opponents pollicis (OP)
Abductor Pollicis Brevis - N/S and action.
N/S - Median Nerve
Action - Abducts thumb and helps oppose it.
Felxor pollicis brevis - N/S and Action
Superficial head - Median Nerve
Deep Head - Ulnar Nerve
Action - flexes thumb
In the thenar compartment, what does the Median Nerve supply?
Muscles within the thenar compartment:
Abductor Pollicis Brevis
Flexor Pollicis Brevis (superficial head)
Oponens Pollicis
