Draws the scalp posteriorly and anteriorly, causing the eyebrows to raise and wrinkles to form on the forehead
-Muscle that covers the top of the skull

Occipitofrontalis
Muscle of mastication and is the strongest chewing muscle. Closes the mandible and assists in side to side movement of the mandible
-Arising from the temporal cavity and inserting in the mandible

Temporalis
Muscle of mastication, closes the mandible. The chewing muscle
-Arises from the zygomatic arch and inserting in the mandible

Masseter
Closes the eyelid and compresses the lacrimal sac
-Sphincter muscle around the eye socket

Orbicularis oculi
Pyramid shaped muscle of facial expression. Draws the eyebrows inferiorly and medially.
-Lies beneath the frontalis and orbicularis oculi.
-Also known as a frowning muscle
Corrugator
Raises the upper eyelid
-Muscle of facial expression that runs from the inside of the eye socket to the upper tarsal plate of the eyelid
-Two, left and right
Levator palpebrae superioris
Draws the skin of the forehead inferiorly, causing the transverse and vertical wrinkles in the forehead
-Covers the bridge of the nose
-Two, left and right
Procerus
Closes the lips. Compresses lips against the teeth. Shapes lips during speech
-Flat band of muscles in the upper and lower red lips and integumentary lips
-One muscle
Orbicularis oris
Raises the upper lip and dilates nostrils
-Muscle of facial expression

Levator labii superioris alaeque nasi
Elevates and extends the upper lip
-Muscle of facial expression

Principle muscle of the cheek. Compresses the cheek and it pulls the anguli oris posteriorly
-Makes up part of the angulus oris eminence
-“Trumpeter muscle”

Draws the corners of the mouth posteriorly.
-Extends from the skin over the masseter muscles to the corners of the mouth

Risorius
Depresses the angle of the mouth
-Muscle of facial expression that arises from the mandible to insert into the anguli oris

Depressor anguli oris
Depresses the lower lip inferiorly and slightly laterally
-Muscle of facial expression

Depressor labii inferioris
Elevates and protrudes the lower lip. Also wrinkles the skin over the chin
-Located on the tip of the chin

Mentalis
Thin layer of muscle covering the anterior aspect of the neck
-Wrinkles the skin of the neck and chest, also depresses the mandible and anguli oris as in pouting

Platysma
Rotates and depresses the head
-Thick muscle that originates from the head of the sternum and clavicle, and inserts at the mastoid process of the temporal bone
Sternocleidomastoid
Double bellied muscle of the neck which attaches to the mastoid process and the mandible
-Draws the hyoid bone posteriorly
Digastric
