Muscles of mastication (madible) Flashcards
Mandible Movement
depends on tempro-mandibular joint ligaments: *temporomandibular ligament *sphenomandibublar ligament *stylomandibular ligament
Lower Mandible
Digastric Muscle
also raise larynx
origin - inside surface of lower border of mandible, mastoid process of temporal bone
insertion - intermediate tendon, attached to corpus of hyoid
action - raise larynx/ lower madible
Lower Mandible
Mylohyoid Muscle
origin - mylohoid line, unpaired
action - lift mandible
Lower Mandible
Geniohyoid Muscle
superior to mylohyoid
origin - lower midline border of mandible
insertion - anterior hyoid
action - lower mandible
Lower Mandible
External Pterygoid Muscle
origin - lateral pterygoid plate and greater wing of sphenoid bone
insertion - condoyle of mandible
action - extends jaw and lowers madible
Lift Mandible
Masseter Muscle
origin - zygomatic arch
insertion - down and back into ramus of mandible
action - lift mandible
Lift Mandible
Temporalis Muscle
origin - squamous portion of temporal bone
insertion - under zygomatic arch to anterior border of ramus of mandible
action - lift mandible
Lift Mandible
Internal Pterygoid Muscle
origin - lateral ptergoid plate and perpendicular plate of palatine bone
insertion - down, lateral, and posterior to inner surface of mandible ramus
action - lift mandible
