Muscles of Mastication Flashcards
Where does the superficial head of the masseter originate?
From the zygomatic process of maxilla and anterior 2/3 of zygomatic arch
Where does the deep head of the masseter originate?
Posterior 1/3 of zygomatic arch
Where does the superficial head of the masseter insert?
In the massetric tuberosity
What is the massetric tuberosity?
Found on the inferior half of the ramus, jsut superioir to the angle of the mandible.
Where does the deep head of the masseter insert?
Upper half of the ramus (above superficial head insertion)
What innervates the massater
The massetric nerve of the mandibular nerve
What innervates the masseter muscles?
The massetric nerve of the mandibular nerve
Where does the temporalis originate?
The temporal fossa and deeps surface of the temporal fascia
Where does the temporalis insert?
Coronoid process of the ramus
What innervates the temporalis muscle?
Deep temporal nerves of the mandibular nerve
Where does the superficial head of the medial pterygoid muscle originate from?
The maxillary tuberosity and the puramidal process of the palatine bone.
Where does the medial pterygoid muscle insert?
The medial surface of the ramus and angle of the mandible
Where does the deep head of the medial pterygoid originate?
The medial surface of the lateral pterygoid plate
Where does the superior head of the lateral pterygoid originate?
Infratemporal crest of the greater wing of the sphenoid bone
Where does the superior head of the lateral pterygoid insert?
The joint capsule of the TMJ
