Muscles of Hand Flashcards
abductor pollicis brevis (APB) proximal attachment
flexor retinaculum and tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium
APB distal attachment
lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
APB innervation
recurrent branch of median nerve (C8, T1)
APB muscle action
abducts thumb, helps oppose it
Flexor pollicis brevis (FPB) superficial head and deep head proximal attachment
flexor retinaculum and tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium (same as APB)
FPB superficial head and deep head distal attachment
lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb (same as APB)
FPB superficial head innervation
recurrent branch of median nerve (C8, T1)
FPB deep head innervation
deep branch of ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
opponens pollicis proximal attachment
flexor retinaculum and tubercles of scaphoid and trapezium (same as APB and FPB)
opponens pollicis distal attachment
lateral side of 1st metacarpal
opponens pollicis innervation
recurrent branch of median nerve (C8, T1)
opponens pollicis muscle action
oppose thumb, draws 1st metacarpal medially to center of palm and rotates it medially
adductor pollicis oblique head proximal attachment
base of 2nd and 3rd metacarpal, capitate and adjacent carpals
adductor pollicis transverse head proximal attachment
anterior surface of shaft of 3rd metacarpal
adductor pollicis oblique and transverse head distal attachment
medial side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
adductor pollicis innervation
deep branch of ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
adductor pollicis muscle action
adducts thumb toward lateral border of palm
