Muscles of gluteal region Flashcards
Insertion of gluteus Maximus
Most fibers end in the illiotibial tract, which inserts into lateral condyle of tibia, some fibers insert on the gluteal tuberous it’s of femur
Origin of gluteus Maximus?
Ilium posterior to posterior gluteal line, dorsal surface of sacrum and coccyx, and sacrotuberous ligament
Innervation of gluteus Maximus
Inferior gluteal nerve L5,S1,S2
Action of gluteus Maximus
Extend hip joint between flexed and standing positions and assists in lateral rotation
Origin of gluteus medius
External surface of ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Insertion of gluteus medius
Lateral surface of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation of gluteus medius
Superior gluteal nerve L4,L5,S1
Action of gluteus medius
Abduct and anterior portions medially rotates the hip joint, keep pelvis level while opposite limb is elevated
Origin of gluteus minimus
External surface of ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Insertion of gluteus minimus
Anterior surface of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation of gluteus minimus
Inferior gluteal nerve L4,L5,S1
Action of gluteus minimus
Abduct and anterior portions medially rotates the hip joint, keep pelvis level while opposite limb is elevated
Origin of tensor fasciae latae
ASIS, anterior part of illiac crest
Insertion of tensor fasciae latae
Illiotibial tract which attaches to lateral condyle of tibia
Innervation of tensor fasciae latae
Superior gluteal nerve L4,L5,S1
Action of tensor fasciae latae
Flexes hip joint, acts with gluteus Maximus to stabilize the extended the knee joint
Origin of piriformis
Anterior surface of 2nd to 4th sacral segments, superior margin of greater sciatic notch and sacrotuberous ligament
Insertion of piriformis
Superior border of greater trochanter of femur
Innervation of piriformis
Branches of anterior rami of S1S2
Action of piriformis
Laterally rotate extended hip joint, abduct the flexed hip joint, steady the head of femur into acetabulum
Origin of obturator internus
Pevic surface of ilium and ishium and obturator membrane
Insertion of obturator internus
Medial surface of greater trochanter of femur
Innveration of obturator internus
Nerve to obturator internus L5,S1
Action of obturator internus
Laterally rotate extended hip joint, abduct the flexed hip joint, steady head of femur into acetabulum
Gemelli origin
Superior:Ischial spine
Inferior: ischial tuberosity
Gemelli insertion
Medial surface of greater trochanter of femur
Gemelli innervation
Superior: nerve to obturator internus L5,S1
Inferior: nerve to quadratus femoris L5,S1
Action of gemelli
Laterally rotate the extended hip joint, abduct the flexed hip joint and steady head of femur into acetabulum
Origin of quadratus femoris
Lateral border of ischial tuberosity
Insertion of quadratus femoris
Quadrate tubercle on intertrochanteric crest of femur and area inferior to it
Innervation of quadratus femoris
Nerve to quadratus femoris L5,S1
Action of quadratus femoris
Laterally rotate hip joint, pulls femoral head into acetabulum to stabilize the hip joint, pelvis
