Anterior Thigh Muscles Flashcards
Pectineus insertion
Pectineal line of femur, inferior to lesser trochanter
Pectineus origin
Superior ramus of pubis
Innervation of pectineus
Femoral nerve L2,L3 and may receive branch from obturator nerve
Action of pectineus
Adducts and flexes hip joint, assists with medial rotation of hip joint
Origin of sartorius
ASIS and superior part of notch inferior to it
Insertion of sartorius
Superior part of medial surface of tibia
Innervation of sartorius
Femoral nerve L2,L3
Action of sartorius
Flexes, abducts and laterally rotates hip joint, flexes knee joint
Origin of psoas major
Sides of T12-L5 vertebrae and discs in between them, transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae
Insertion of psoas major
Lesser trochanter of femur
Innervation of psoas major
Anterior rami of lumbar nerves L1,L2,L3
Action of psoas major
Acting con jointly in flexing hip joint and in stabilizing hip joint, acts as a posture muscle
Origin of iliacus
Illiac crest, illiac fossa, ala of sacrum and anterior sacro-illiac ligaments
Insertion of illiacus
Tendon of psoas major, lesser trochanter of femur and femur distal to it
Innervation of iliacus
Femoral nerve L2,L3
Action of iliacus
Acting con jointly in flexing hip joint
Origin of rectus femoris
AIIS and ilium superior to acetabulum
Origin of vastus lateralis
Greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera
Origin of vastus medialis
Inter trochanteric line and medial lip of linea aspera
Origin of vastus intermedius
Anterior and lateral surfaces of shaft of femur
Insertion of quadriceps femoris
Quadriceps tendon to base of patella via patellar ligament to tibial tuberosity
Innervation of quadriceps femoris
Femoral nerve L2,L3,L4
Action of quadriceps femoris
Extends knee joint, rectus femoris also stabilizes hip joint and helps iliopsoas flex hip joint
