attaches to epicranial aponeurosis and skin of eyebrows/forehead
elevates eyebrows and wrinkles skin of forehead (surprise or curiosity)
occipital frontalis- occipital belly
attaches to epicranial aponeurosis and superior nuchal line
retracts scalp, helps frontal belly
orbicularis oculi
closes eyelids
palpebral part does so gently
orbital part tightly (winking)
corrugator supercilii
draws eyebrows medially and inferiorly, creating vertical wrinkles above nose (concern/worry)
procerus & transverse part of nasalis
depresses medial end of eyebrow, wrinkles skin over dorsum of nose (disdain or dislike)
alar part of nasalis and levator labii superioris alaeque nasii
depresses ala laterally, dilating anterior nasal aperture, flaring nostrils (anger or exertion)
obicularis oris
closes oral fissure, compresses and protrudes lips (kissing) or resists distension (when blowing)
levator labii superioris
part of dilators of mouth, retract and/ or evert upper lip, deepen nasolabial sulcus (showing sadness)
zygomaticus minor
part of dilators of mouth, retract and/ or evert upper lip, deepen nasolabial sulcus (showing sadness)
works with levator labii superioris
buccinator
presses cheek against molar teeth, works with tongue to keep food between occlusal surfaces and out of oral vestibule, resists distension (when blowing)
zygomaticus major
part of dilators of mouth, elevate labial commissure bilaterally to smile, unilaterally to sneer
levator anguli oris
part of dilators of mouth, widens oral fissure when grinning or grimacing
risorius
part of dilators of mouth, depresses labial commissure bilaterally to frown
works with depressor anguli oris
depressor labii inferioris
part of dilators of mouth, depresses and or everts lower lip (pouting)
mentalis
elevates and protrudes lower lip, elevates skin of chin (doubt)
