Moore Clinically Oriented Anatomy Table 8.3
What is the origin of the frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis?
Epicranial Aponeurosis
What is the insertion of the frontal belly of occipitofrontalis?
Skin and subcutaneous tissue of eyebrows and forehead
What is the innervation of the frontal belly?
Temporal branch of the facial nerve
What is the action of the frontal belly of the occipitofrontalis?
Elevates the eyebrows.
Protracts the scalp
Wrinkles the skin of the forehead
What is the origin of the occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis?
Lateral two thirds of the superior nuchal lines
What is the insertion of the occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis?
Epicranial aponeurosis
What is the innervation of the occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis?
Posterior auricular branch of the facial nerve
What is the action of the occipital belly of the occipitofrontalis?
Retracts the scalp
Helps the frontal belly do its job.
What is the origin of orbicularis oculi?
Medial Palpebral ligament
Medial Orbital Margin
Lacrimal bone
What is the insertion of the orbicularis oculi?
Skin around the margin of the orbit
Superior and inferior tarsal plates
What is the innervation of the orbicularis oculi?
Temporal and zygomatic branches of the facial nerve
What is the function of orbicularis oculi?
Orbital part - Shuts the eyelids tightly
Palpebral part - Shuts the eyelids closely
What is the origin of corrugator supercilii?
Medial end of the superciliary arch
What is the insertion of the corrugator supercilii?
Superior to the middle of the supraorbital margin and the superciliary arch.
What is the innervation of the corrugator supercilii?
Temporal branch of the facial nerve
What is the action of the corrugator supercilii?
Draws the eyebrows inferiorly and medially, creating vertical ridges above the nose.
What is the origin of procerus?
Nasal bone and upper lateral nasal cartilage
What is the insertion of the procerus?
Skin of the lower forehead between the eyebrows
What is the innervation of the procerus?
Temporal and lower zygomatic branches from the facial nerve. A supply from its buccal branch has also been described.
What is the action of the procerus?
Depresses the medial eyebrows, producing transverse wrinkles on the bridge of the nose
What are the parts of nasalis muscle?
Alar part
Transverse part
What is the origin of the transverse part of the nasalis?
Maxilla just lateral to nose
What is the insertion of the transverse part of the nasalis?
Aponeurosis extending over the dorsum of the nose
What is the origin of the alar part of the nasalis?
Maxilla over the lateral incisor
What is the insertion of the alar part of the nasalis?
Alar cartilage of nose
What is the innervation of the nasalis?
Buccal branch of the facial nerve
What is the function of nasalis?
Transverse part - Compresses the nasal aperture
Alar part - Draws cartilage downward and laterally, opening nostril
What is the origin of the orbicularis oris?
Medial maxilla and mandible; deep surface of the perioral skin; angle of mouth (modiolus)
What is the insertion of the orbicularis oris?
Mucous membrane of the lips
What is the innervation of the orbicularis oris?
Buccal branch of facial nerve
