Muscles of anterior cervical regions (O, I, N, A) Flashcards
Insertion: Mylohyoid
Mylohyoid raphe and bone of hyoid
Origin: Mylohyoid
Mylohyoid line of mandible
Nerve innervation: mylohyoid
Nerve to mylohyoid, a branch of inferior alveolar nerve (from mandibular nerve, CN V3)
Origin: Geniohyoid
mental spines of mandible
Insertion: Geniohyoid
Body of hyoid bone
Nerve innervation: Geniohyoid
C1 via hypoglossal nerve (CN XII)
Action: mylohyoid
Elevates hyoid, floor of mouth, and tongue during swallowing and speaking
Action: Geniohyoid
Elevates and protracts hyoid bone. Depresses mandible
Origin: stylohyoid
styloid process of temporal bone
Insertion: stylohyoid
Base of greater cornu of hyoid bone
Nerve innervation: stylohyoid
Posterior auricular branch of facial nerve (VII)
Action: stylohyoid
elevates and retracts hyoid, thus elongating floor of mouth
Origin: digastric (anterior belly)
anterior belly: digastric fossa on posterior surface of symphysis menti
Origin: digastric (posterior belly)
posterior belly: : mastoid process
Insertion: digastric
Fibrous loop to lesser cornu of hyoid bone
Nerve innervation: digastric
Anterior belly: mylohyoid nerve of V3 (CN V). Posterior belly: facial nerve (VII)
Action: digastric
Aids in swallowing, elevates hyoid and floor of mouth. Depresses mandible
Origin: sternohyoid
Superior lateral posterior aspect of manubrium
Insertion: sternohyoid
Inferior border of body of hyoid bone
Nerve innervation: sternohyoid
C1 - C3 by a branch of ansa cervicalis
Action: sternohyoid
Depresses hyoid after elevation during swallowing
Origin: Omohyoid
Suprascapular ligament and adjacent scapula
Insertion: omohyoid
Inferior body of hyoid bone
Nerve innervation: omohyoid
Ansa cervicalis Nerve (C1, 2, 3)
Action: omohyoid
Depresses, retracts, and steadies hyoid
Origin: sternothyroid
Medial posterior aspect of manubrium
Insertion: sternothyroid
Oblique line of thyroid cartilage
Nerve innervation: sternothyroid
C2 and C3 by a branch of ansa cervicalis
Action: sternothyroid
depresses hyoid and larynx
Origin: thyrohyoid
oblique line of thyroid cartilage
Insertion: thyrohyoid
inferior border of body of HYOID BONE and greater horn of hyoid
Nerve innervation: thyrohyoid
C1 via hypoglossal nerve (CNX II)
Action: thyrohyoid
depresses hyoid an elevates larynx
Origin: sternocleidomastoid
Manubrium and medial clavicle
Insertion: sternocleidomastoid
Mastoid process and superior nuchal line
Action: sternocleidomastoid
- Flexes and lat rotates cervical spine.
- Protracts head when acting together .
- Extends neck when neck already partially extended
N. Innervation: sternocleidomastoid
Accessory nerve
