Extra- Ocular muscles of orbit Flashcards
Origin: Levator palpebrae superioris
Lesser wing of sphenoid bone, superior and anterior to optic canal
Insertion: Levator palpebrae superioris
Superior tarsus and skin of superior eyelid
N. Innervation: levator palpebrae superioris
- Oculomotor nerve (CNIII)
- Deep layer is suppled by sympathetic fibers
Action: levator palpebrae superioris
Elevates superior eyelid
Origin: Superior oblique
Body of sphenoid bone
Insertion: superior oblique
It’s tendon passes through a fibrous ring (trochlea), changes its direction, and inserts into sclera deep to superior rectus muscle
N. Innervation: superior oblique
Trochelar nerve (CN IV)
Action: superior oblique
Abducts, depresses, and medially rotates eyeball
Origin: Inferior oblique
Common tendinous ring
Insertion: inferior oblique
Sclera deep to lateral rectus muscle
Action: inferior oblique
Elevates, adducts, and medially rotates eyebal
Origin: inferior rectus
Common tendinous ring
Insertion: inferior rectus
sclera just posterior to corner-scleral junction
N. Innervation: inferior rectus
Oculomotor (CN III)
Action: inferior rectus
adducts eyeball
