Q

Function of trapezius?

A
  • the middle fibers retract the scapula
  • the upper fibers elevate the pectoral girdle.
  • Bilateral contraction of the upper trapezius results in extension of the neck.
  • The lower fibers pull down the medial part of the scapula and depress the scapula. ‘
  • Upper and lower produce lateral (external) rotation of the scapula.
  • Stabilizes the scapula to allow free movement of the upper limb.

Q

If your arms are fixed, how does the lattisimus dorsi move your body?

A

it acts to retract the pectoral gridle.
Also functions in active expiration (e.g. coughing, sneezing.)
Latissimus dorsi is active in climbing, chinups, rowing, swiming and using crutches.
