Q

what is a Trochanter?

A

17
Q

what is a Tubercle?

A

Small rounded process

18
Q

what is a Tuberosity?

A

Large rounded often roughened process.

19
Q

Which two types of bones do we have in the body?

A

Compact (dense) bone tissue

Spongy (Cancellous) bone tissue

20
Q

what are the characteristics of compact (dense) bone tissue

A
  • Contains fewer and smaller spaces and more solid matter.
  • it forms the external (outer) layer of all bones and the diaphyses of long bones.
    Function: protect, support, weight-bearing.
21
Q

what are the characteristics of Spongy (Cancellous) bone tissue

A
  • Contains more and larger space.
  • its less solid.
  • usually forms the central mass of short, flat and irregular bones and the epiphyses of long bones.
  • Its composed by thin plates of bone called trabeculae, the spaces between the trabeculae contain red bone marrow.
22
Q

Functions of the skeletal system:

A

Framework
protect internal organs like heart and lungs
attachment for skeletal muscle.
storage for minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, plus yellow bone marrow which stores lipids (fat, energi storage)
containment of redbone marrow where red-blodcells, white-blodcells and platlets (hematopoiesis) are made.
