O: fleshy slips from transverse processes, bodies and discs of lumbar vertebrae and t12

N: ventral rami. roots l1-l3
K: flex thigh or flexing trunk on thigh during bow, lateral flexion of vertebral column

I: winds around medial aspect of knee and inserts into medial aspect of proximal tibia
N: femoral nerve
K: flexes, abducts and laterally rotates thigh, flexes knee, produces the cross legged position
