Muscles 2- Craniolateral and Caudomedial Antebrachial Muscles Flashcards
Extensor carpi radialis
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus (and its crest)
Termination: dorsal base of second and third metacarpal bones
Action: extend the carpal and digital joints
Common digital extensor
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus
Termination: extensor processes of distal phalanges
Action: extend the carpal and digital joints
Lateral digital extensor
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus
Termination: distal phalanges (also proximal and/or middle phalanges) of lateral digit(s)
Action: extend the carpal joints and digital joints of the lateral most digits
Ulnaris lateralis
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus
Termination: accessory carpal bone and lateral base of fifth metacarpal bone
Action: flex carpal joints; abduct the manus
Supinator
Origin: lateral epicondyle of humerus
Termination: body of radius
Action: supination of manus
Abductor pollicus longus
Origin: proximal antebrachium (ulna)
Termination: medial metacarpus
Action: abduct the first digit
Brachioradialis
Origin: lateral epicondyle of the humerus
Termination: fascia near the carpus
Action: flexes the cubital joint and supinates the manus
Flexor carpi radialis
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Termination: palmar base of metacarpal bones 2 and 3
Action: flex the carpal joints
Flexor carpi ulnaris
(2 heads: humeral and ulnar)
Origin: medial epicondyle and olecranon
Termination: accessory carpal bones
Action: flex the carpal joints
Superficial digital flexor
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Termination: middle phalanges of digits (palmar aspects)
Action: flex the carpal joints, metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints
Deep digital flexor
(3 heads: humeral, radial, ulnar)
Origin: humerus (medial epicondyle), radius, ulna
Termination: flexor tubercles of distal phalanges
Action: flex the carpal and digital joints
Pronator teres
Origin: medial epicondyle of humerus
Termination: medial body of radius
Action: weak elbow flexion and weak pronation of the manus
Pronator quadratus
Attachments: apposed surfaces of the radius and ulna
Action: pronation of manus
