Muscle tissue characteristics
A
- cellular
- Contractility: ability to shorten itself (actin and myosin proteins)
- High vascularity
- in permanent G0 (growth arrest)- can’t make more cells

Skeletal muscle tissue
A
- also called strained because of striped appearance
- attaches to bone
- can be controlled by conscious effect (voluntary)
- cells (muscle fibers) are long and cylindrical and have many nuclei

Cardiac Muscle tissues
A
- found only in the heart
- involuntarily
- lacks striations, taped on ends
- very, very strong
- uterus can come out of permanent G0
