Muscle tissue Flashcards
What are the three types of muscle tissues?
Skeletal, Smooth and Cardiac Muscle
What is skeletal muscles also called
Voluntary or striated ( long, thin parallel streaks.)
What does the skeletal muscle show under a microscope?
crosswise stripes or striations
What Tissue composes the bulk of the heart
Cardiac muscle/myocardium
What are the features of the cardiac muscle
branching fibers, one nucleus per cell, striations, and intercalated disks ( dark bands) .
What do the cardiac muscle fibers allow
They have interconnections that allow the heart to contract efficiently as one unit (team)
What are Smooth/visceral muscles
are nonstriated, involuntary, and appear smooth under a microscope
What is found in the walls of hollow structures, such as the digestive tract and blood vessels?
Nonstriated muscles
What do all types of muscle fibers specialize in?
Contractions, ( the generations of force ) ALL MUSCLES CONTRACT
