Functions of skeletal muscle Flashcards
What is movement
Muscles produce movement by pulling on bones, and the insertion bone is pulled closer to the origin bone, this occurs at the joint between the origin and insertion
Groups of muscles usually contract to produce a single movement
true
Prime mover
The main muscle that is responsible for producing movement
Synergist
Helps the prime mover produce the movement. Ex The brachioradialis, in the forearm, and brachialis, located deep to the biceps in the upper arm, are both synergists that aid in this motion.
Antagonist
It opposes the action of the prime mover in any movement. Ex while the triceps will be the antagonist as it relaxes to allow the movement to occur.
What is tonic concentration and explain
Continuous low strength muscle contractions (muscle tone), enables us to maintain body position, only a few muscle fibers shorten at one time. basically, posture
