Muscle sway Flashcards
What are the main movements of the trunk?
Flexion(forwards), extension(backwards), lateral flexion, rotation.
What are the muscles and their position in the anterior abdominal wall?
Rectus abdominis, either side of the midline.
What are the muscles of the anterolateral wall?
3 layers, superficial to deep, external oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis.
What are the names for the muscles of the posterior trunk
erector spinae, responsible for extension and exists in 3 groups.
describe moments of the scapulothoracic joints.
Protracted, retracted, elevated, depressed, rotated.
Describe movements possible at the glenohumeral joints.
Shoulder joint- extension and flexion anteromedially from the anatomical position.
Abduction and adduction- towards/ away from midline sideways.
Medial and lateral rotation- rotated towards body from anatomical position from the anatomical position.
What is circumduction?
Combination of shoulder movements to produce a cone shape.
Describe the deltoid
large triangular muscle, proximal attachments at the clavicle, spine, scapula and acromion process. distal attachment at the lateral aspect of the humerus.
Describe the pectoral muscle
pectoralis major, proximal attachment at clavicle and the body of the sternum.
Name the muscles that occupy the posterior body and have a role in movement at the scapulothoracic joint.
trapezius, serratus anterior, latissimus dorsi
Identify the major flexors and extenders at the elbow joint.
flexors- biceps brachii and brachialis
Extensors- triceps brachii
describe the movements of the hand/ wrist and the muscles that produce it
flexion, extension, abduction, adduction, circumduction,
Intrinsic muscles and extrinsic muscles (in the anterior and posterior compartments of the forearm).
What is the flexor retinaculum
A band of connective tissue that holds the tendons of the wrist joint in place
Describe the gluteus maximus muscle
Extensor of the hip joint, distal attachment the posterior femur and iliobibial tract a band of connective tissue on the lateral thigh. Proximal attachment, posterior surface of ilium.
describe the iliopsoas muscle
Produce flexion at the hip joint.
two separate muscles with different proximal attachments, iliacus anterior surface of the ilium, psoas major from lumbar vertebrae. Distal attachment, lesser trochanter.
