how is skeletal muscle structured?
long, striated, cylindrical fibers arranged parallel, multinucleate, voluntary
where is skeletal muscle found?
attaches to bones or sometimes to skin
what is the function of skeletal muscle?
body movement, posture, heat production, protection and support, regulation of waste
how is cardiac muscle structured?
short, striated, branching cells that contain one/two nuclei, intercalated discs b/w cells, involuntary
what is the function of cardiac muscle?
pump blood through heart and blood vessels
where is cardiac muscle found?
heart wall (myocardium)
how is smooth muscle structured?
short and tapered cells that lack striations, one centered nucleus, involuntary
what is the function of smooth muscle?
move and propel materials through internal organs, controls size of lumen
where is smooth muscle found?
walls of internal organs like intestines, stomach, airways, urinary bladder, uterus, blood vessels, iris of eye
a skeletal muscle is considered an organ
true
what is the process of a skeletal muscle contraction?
