Muscle functions Flashcards
Types of muscle function
muscle power
muscle tone
muscle endurance
movement functions of motor reflexes and involuntary movement reactions
control of voluntary movement - eye hand, eye foot, bilateral integration, crossing midline, lfine motor, gross motor and oculomotor
Define muscle power
Strength – the force with which a body part must move or hold an object requires the function of muscle power
Define muscle tone
degree of muscle tension
Define muscle endurance
Muscle endurance:
sustaining muscle contraction
- The contraction of a muscle being maintained for a porplonged period of time
Define Movement functions
Well movement functions are motor reflexes and involuntary movement reactions
Define motor reflexes
involuntary contractions induced by stretching
Define Involuntary movement reactions
postural, body adjustments and supporting reactions
Define the types of control of voluntary movement
well there is eye hand eye foot bilateral integration crossing midline fine motor gross moto oculomotor
Define eye-hand
- Coordinating what is visually seen with what the hands are doing
- Handwriting
Define eye-foot
- Coordinating what is visually seen with what the lower extremises are doing
Define Bilateral integration
bilateral integration
- When both sides of the body, arms or legs are used collaboratively to complete a task
Define Crossing midline
crossing midline
- Right side crossing into the left side of the body
Define Fine motor
fine motor
- The small muscles of the hand, fingers and thimb
Define Fine motor
- The larger muscles of the body used to coordinate movements
Define Oculomotor
- Motor control of the eye muscles that allow for the detection of visual information in the environment
