Muscle & Epithelium tissue Flashcards

1
Q

Muscle Tissue:
A.
B.
C.

A

Voluntary- under our control
Skeletal muscles- “meat”
*striated

Smooth muscle- involuntary muscle
*long patches/ nuclei

Cardiac muscle- wall of the heart
Allows electrochemical impulses to be conveyed across the tissue
*striated & has intercalated disks

Q

Epithelial tissue characteristic

A
  • Found throughout The body covers all body services both inside and out
  • main glandular tissue (secretion)
  • attached to underlying connective tissue by noncellular nonliving basement membrane
  • Usually has good blood supply
  • cells reproduce rapidly (rapid healing)
  • cells tightly packed together

Q

Simple squamous-

Function?

Found?

A

Simple squamous- single layer (simple) of very thin, flattened cells (squamous)

Function: quick diffusion & filtration

Found in aid sac of lungs & walls of capillaries

Q

Simple columnar-

Function?

Found?

A

Single layer, elongated cells with their nuclei about in the same potion (usually near membrane)

Function:
•secrete & absorb
-constrains scatter goblet cells functioning in the secretion of mucus
-some columnar cells (involved in absorption) have tiny finger-like processes from their free surface called cilia

Found in the lining of digestive tract & uterus

Q

Simple cuboidal-

Function?

Found?

A

Single layer, cube shaped cells.

Function: secretion & absorb

Found in lining of kidney tubules, ducts, covering surface of ovaries

Q

Stratified squamous-

Function?

Found?

A

Multi-layer squamous (flattened) cells

Function: protection

Found in lining body favorites like the oral cavity, anal of skin canal & vagina

Q

Pseudostritified columnar-

A

Appear “stratified” but really is single layer with nuclei in diff. positions, uneven giving the appearance of layered cells.
•contains goblet cells

Function: secretion & absorption movement

Found in the lining air passages like the tubes & tubes of the reproductive system

Q

Transitional epithelium-

A

Thick layered cuboidal cells.

Function: distend & contract, also forms barrier to infection

Found in lining of bladder
