Connective Tisuse Flashcards

1
Q

Loose connective tissue or AREOLAR tissue-

A

Bonds skin to organs, organs to organ, spaces between muscles, throughout body

**most abundant tissue in body

Q

Adipose Tissue-

Found?

Function?

A

Aka fat, beneath skin, around kidneys , eyeballs & abdominal membranes.

Function: protect, insulation to preserve heat & store energy

Cells are called ADIPOCYTES

Q

Fibrous connective tissue-

A

Dense & tightly packed, closely packed, think collagenous fibers & fine network of elastic fibers.

Tendons- connect muscles to bones
Ligaments- connect bones to bone

•few cells, poor blood supply= slow healing

Q

Hyaline cartilage-

A

Very fine white (collagenous) fibers

*most common type

Covers ends of bones, joints, noise, respiratory passages

(Bone growth model)

A

More flexible elastic

  • external ear & larynx (vocal cords)

Fibrocartilage-

A

Larger numerous collagenous fibers.

  • Lines in rows
  • intervertable disk

Q

Bone tissue-

A

Osseus tissue. Rigid due to layers

Layers- lamellae, Haversian canals, osteocytes
**Looks like tree trucks

A

Found scattered throughout the body

Immune phagocytes (Destruction of large quantities and toxins/particles)

Q

General characteristics:

A
  • Most abundant tissue in the body
  • composed of more scattered cells with abundant intercellular material (matrix)
  • provide support, protection, framework, fills space, storesstores fat, produces blood cells, fight infection and helps repair tissue
  • made up of ground substance (flui, semi-solid and fibers)
  • most have a good blood supply
  • cells can reproduce (over various time frames)

Q

Three common types of cells:

A

Mast cells: (prevents blood clots) helps blood flow

Macrophages: (phagocytic) scavengers

  • kill thing that aren’t supposed to be in matrix
    ex: WBC

Fibroblast: (most abundant, produce, fibers, secrete protein)
- elastic, solid, building blocks of the body

Q

Collagenous fibers:

A

Collagenous fibers- thick, made of protein collagen, major structural protein in the body, appear in long parallel bundles

•hold items together strong but not very elastic also known as white fibers
(Bone, tendons, ligaments)

Elastic fibers-

A

Microfibrils protein and elastin, yellow fibers.
Not as strong but very flexible
(Respiratory and vocal cords)
