Muscarinic Receptors Flashcards
1
Q
M1
A
Mainly in glands and enteric nerves; ↑ [Ca2+] causing ↑ secretion of glands and ↑peristalsis
2
Q
M2
A
Primarily in heart; ↓[cAMP] causing ↓[Ca2+] causing relaxation of heart, ↓HR and ↓AV conduction velocity. Also ↑[K+]
3
Q
M3
A
Primarily in smooth muscle and glands; ↑[Ca2+] causing contraction of muscle (e.g. bladder), ↑secretion of salivary glands. also indirectly causes vasodilation by ↑NO production from endothelial cells
4
Q
M4
A
Preferentially expressed in CNS; ↓[cAMP] causes ↓[Ca2+] causes analgesia. Also, causes increased auto-receptor mediated inhibition of transmitter release in CNS
5
Q
M5
A
Preferentially expressed in CNS; ↑[Ca2+] may cause dilation of cerebral arteries and arterioles.
