Atropine toxicity

A

Increases body temperature (decreases sweating). Rapid pulse. Dry mouth. Flushed skin. Cycloplegia. Constipation. Disorientation. Can cause acute angle-closure glaucoma in the elderly. Urinary retention in men with prostatic hyperplasia. Hyperthermia in infants.

Atropine site of action and clinical application.

A

Muscarinic Antagonist. Treats Bradycardia & ophthalmic application.
Eye: Produces mydriasis (dilates pupils) and cycloplegia ( paralyze the ciliary muscle so no accommodation).
Airway: decreases secretions.
Stomach: decreases acid secretions
Gut: decreases motility
Bladder: decreases urgency in cystitis
Blocks DUMBBELSS: anticholinergic poisoning
