Alan Freed: Who was he and what did he do for rock n roll
Freed was the first radio guy and concert producer who frequently played and promoted “rock and roll” on mainstream radio in the early 1950s.
Promoted mixed gatherings, no segregation, teen dancing on TV.
Character: would take bribes, cheat, beg for cowriting on songs and stream them more than others to make more in royalties.
What were some of the musical elements of rock n roll?
-Typically in 4/4 time signature

How does the electric Guitar work?
-Has a solid body, metal strings, behind which there is a magnet, then a coil which is called a pickup.
-Striking the string creates dispursement of air molecules is the sound we pick up.
-Because magnetized, flux creates an electric field and current into the pickup on the guitar.
-From here the guitar is plugged into an amp, and then a speaker.
What is “race music”?
Race music is music that is popular or played by Black People, especially jazz and blues.
People called Elvis a black singer in a white body.
Where did the rock and roll name originate?
Trixie Smith was the first one to use the words rock and roll as a lyric and as a double entendre, for both dancing as well as sexual activity.
Later Allen freed would go on to popularize the term and so called genre.
Where did the Folk revivial take place and what was its significance?
Greenwich Village in NYC particularly in the 50s and 60s was a hub for the folk revival, played a crucial role in further folk development.
